My Name is Gail F…I am a Compulsive Gambler

Addiction is Hard….Recovery is Hard….Choose Your Hard

I came into recovery almost five years ago a broken woman. I had just made the admission to my husband of over 30 years and the rest of my family my truth.

My truth was that a 20 year secret gambling addiction had devastated our family financially, emotionally and in so many other ways.

I came into recovery from my insidious disease on my knees wanting to end my life. Somehow I found the courage to put as much effort into my recovery that I had put into my addiction and managed to repair some relationships, and let go of the rest.

This blog will share my experience coming into recovery during the pandemic and some of the things I have learned and discovered along the way both about myself and the journey of recovery.

I will remain forever grateful to my partner who I met 6 months into my recovery journey. I told him my truth right away and he never flinched. He saw good in me when I could not see any, he loved me when I could not find love for myself.

I believe that recovery for me has presented the opportunity for choice. I get to choose every morning to love my amazing partner and make the most amazing life with him. I also get to choose not to place that first bet that will send me into hell.

Addiction is hard…recovery is hard….I am able to choose my hard every day.
